For the past few weeks in tech we have been working on our light bars. What these are is a bar with a led light inside of it. Firstly we had to make the bar of plastic to fit inside our light bars. Than we had to construct our bar for our light to sit on.
After that it's complete, I made my light bar for my mum! It had her name on it, with too love hearts.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Community Impact Projects
Today for community impact projects, we had kiwi kaha first 30 minutes for the rest of period 1, then we went out to the garden, then we had morning tea, after morning ted period 3 we did some more gardening out in the garden, a couple of us helped Mr Tisch plant some watermelon and corn, then I had a job to grab some water so we could water the plants. It took us ages to find a tap that worked!
For period 4 we did blogging as a reflection for what we did today.

Writing
Inspired Writing
For writing we have been learning to increase the vocabulary in our writing. Our task was to get a picture and write our sentences using and describing what is happening in the picture. We had to then highlight what changes we made in each sentence.
Here is the final sentence of my writing:
- The girl swam underwater.
- The girl swam under the deep blue sea.
- The girl swam under the deep blue sea like a human fish, holding a light as bright as a star.
- A girl swam under the deep blue marine, in the form of a fish, holding a light as bright as a star. Her surroundings made her feel lost.
- An interested sea diving girl, swam under the deep blue marine, in the form of a fish, holding a light as bright as a star. Her surroundings made her feel extremely lost, Emily was very anxious.
Now that my writing is complete we have to mark ourselves on the vocab rubric: I rate myself a R5, personally I think that I can think deeper and come out with something more creative, I also think that I can make it more interesting and better to read!

Tecnology
Key Rings
In technology we have made our own key rings using tinker cad to create our designs.
How we created these was set out a template, found a design we wanted and then inserted it onto the template, then made it a dxf and sent it to our teacher.

Community Impact Projects
Today for community Impact projects we didn't do very much apart from pull weeds out of both areas (classroom & back garden). in period 2 we had kiwi kaha we did 1 activity which was to walk aroudnd the classroom and trade cards to make the most money our team came third with $1150 dollars. During period 3 I had athletics training, we did shot put for the people who are doing shot put. I injured my shoulder throwing the 3kg shot put.
I'm looking forward to the Canterbury Athletics! The event's I'm taking part in are Discuss, shot put and 60m sprints.

Technology
Digital Tech
During our technology lessons we have been learning a variety of different things such as, Lazer cutting, tours around the space and area and just working on computers. For our first lesson, Mr Rzoska took us for our tour around his work shop showed us how to use the machines and what to do and what not to do. We had a piece of paper with a whole lot of rules on it, we had to go through those rules and then sign it if we agreed to them.
On our second lesson we got to play around on tinker-cad. It is a site to make and create a piece of work that would be either lazercut or be put in drafts for something else. We played around with the site and got to cheek it out and see what we could do, I learned how to do make a key chain.
On our third lesson we then played with a new site, it was very complicating. So we stuck to our original site. We carried on playing around with it.
We have come to our forth lesson but unfortaunlly I was sick so I couldn't attend school.
Today's lesson we are blogging about what we have done for the past lessons.

Community Impact Projects
Today for community impact we were pulling out weeds from both gardens. I didn't enjoy any of it one because it was cold two because the grass was wet so it made our hands cold. Something I enjoyed today was Kiwi Kaha for the first time, we played a game called Spaceship and another game where we used our body language to create something.Friday, October 18, 2019
Hurumanu - Drama
Change and Challenges
In drama this week, we have been learning about two different learning objectives but in two periods, Slam poetry and puberty Our tasks were to complete our own piece of slam poetry and work together as a class to learn about puberty. Here is an example of slam poetry:
We made out own slam poetry, we made them about ourselves, here is some of the information i put in mine:
- My name
- Three or four adjectives that describe you/person
- Important relationship
- Two or three things, people, or ideas that person loved
- Three feelings you/person has experienced
- The fears that you/person have discovered
- Two or three things the you/person wanted to see or happen or wanted to experience
- His or her residence
- Last name.....
Hope you now know something about slam poetry, don't want to go to far into puberty...

Science Wind power
Science (Wind Power)
Measuring weather.
Definitions:
- Anemometer:
- Beaufort wind scale:
MATERIALS
- PLASTIC LID X4
- TAPE
- PENCIL
- PIN
- SKEWERS X2
STEPS
- Get all the materials you need.
- Tape plastic lids to the skewers. (two on each skewer.)
- Tape the two skewers together.
- Pin the skewers to the pencil.
- Test to make sure it spins.
- Go to winding spaces to see the wind speed.
Group Investigation.
Groups size: 5
Roles:
Groups size: 5
Roles:
- Timekeeper ( watch)
- Counter
- Recorder ( Chromebook or refill )
- Anemometer Manager ( Anemometer)
- Wind Manager
Instructions:
- Go to the measuring place and set up your wind gauge.
- Make sure everyone in your group is ready to start their roles.
- Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
- Count the number of spins in 15 seconds.
- Record it on your chart.
FINDINGS
Place name on school grounds | Number of Spins in 15 seconds | |
1. | Field | 0.5 |
2. | Old J Block site | 1 |
3. | Grass hill in the quad | 1 |
4. | Tennis Court gate | 0 |
CONCLUSION:
There was much wind where we went today so the number of spins would be a low amount.
The places that had the most wind were the grass hill in the quad and the old J block site.
The field was the second most windest place in the school because it spun half the way around.
The Tennis Court was not windy at all and it spun 0 times.

Moved In
New Classrooms
On Monday 23rd both year 7 & 8 classes were moved into the new our new classrooms. In total there were three classrooms that built, each class had to move in with a buddy class, our buddy class was Sh. We had been given names for each of the three classrooms (Mohua, Riroriro and Tieke). The name of our building is Tieke, all the names that we have been given are birds.Tieke/Saddleback |
Mohua |
Riroriro |
When I first entered the buildings I thought that it was a little stupid as its like a really open area, other than that I thought the tiered seating was the best! I also thought about the sharing classes with out buddy class, turns out its actually going okay.
When I first entered the buildings I felt, safe, warming and very excited to be able to get out of the old buildings and become closer to the rest of the school,
In conclusion I think that the buildings are awesome! And I can't wait to find out what's going to happen for the last term of the year!

2040 Documentary (science)
Documentary - 2040 by Damson Gameau
This afternoon for science we mixed with the other science group as the J block buildings are being shifted and no students were allowed to be in them, we got together to watch a documentary. This documentary was about Climate change, Damson wanted his daughters future to be better than it was today, so he travelled around the world to ask kids about what they would like to see in the future.
What surprised me?
Something that surprised me was that cars were driving themselves, plus they were electric. How much this one person wants to change the world and how many people agree with him. Something else that surprised me was how much we could change having solar power, and that it can connect to your neighbours.
What excited me?
Something I found exciting was the amount of things that us people can change if we just make a little difference to this world. Like people have already started Bangladesh have started using solar power and making a huge difference to their homes.
What worried me?
Watching the documentary a lot of things worried me but when it came more into the documentary it kind made more scene. One thing I found very weird was people growing gardens on top of there buildings and houses.
I think that if we start making a difference now we will have a much happier place!
