Extracting DNA - Science

 Aim: To extract DNA.

Method:

1. mush half a kiwi fruit into a zip lock bag with a splash of water and a small teaspoon of salt.

2. Strain the solution through a cloth into a beaker.

3. Add a squirt of dishwashing liquid and stir together.

4. Pour the liquid into a testtube.

5. Place the test tube into a beaker filled with warm water.

6. Leave for 10 minutes.

7. slowly pour 5ml of methylated spirits down the inside of the test tube.

Results:

Discussion:

You find DNA inside an organism, inside that organism in a cell, every cell has a nucleus which is the control centre of the cell. Each nucleus is made up of 46 chromosomes and those chromosomes represent your DNA.

Did you know we share 60% of our DNA with a banana. And we share 96% of DNA with a gorilla although we are more chimpanzees than we are gorillas.

Conclusion: This experiment worked really well.
