Thumbnail Sketch / Photomontage

Art

In art we have been working on creating a piece of art called a 'photomontage'. This type of art is using images t create a picture that has a meaning to it. For example the message could be about women's rights or that black lives matter, it's just another way of explaining something without using words.

When it came to creating our own piece of photomontage, I found it difficult to put my ideas together and create something that really had a meaning to it. I understood how it worked but I couldn't work out where to place images.
Someone that gave the class a really good inspiration to her photomontage was HANNAH HOCH, she was a female artist who wanted women rights, and she used art to create that message, as no one cared about words that came out of a women's mouth.

After finishing our photomontage, we started creating a thumbnail sketch of a photograph we took. I found this photo of the nice sunset outside my window, my end result was:

  1. Kia ora Jaz, good job just reflecting on what you found tricky within the process. I appreciate that as it will help me figure out how to make the learning better next time too. I did noticee that when we did this with a selection of printed images, you completed work absolutely fine, so it has possibly got something to do with how I structured the learning and resource collection digitally.

Awesome to see that you do take lovely photos on your own device, and had a image in stock to work from for the thumbnail sketch. this is something you smashed, as you did it exactly right; not about detail, about mass of form and tone. You coloured in where it was dark and placed the objects in the right place and its a loose quick sketch; perfect.

I hope you enjoy working on developing some photographic ideas tomorrow. See you friday
