 The film aspects show meaning in John G Avildsen's film "The Power of One"

S: In the concert scene, we hear the native South Africans sing aloud a song in their language that was written by P.K, the main character. 

E: The joyful song was lead by a native singer and the rest of the South African tribes sung harmoniously, whilst Doc played the piano and P.K. composed. 

X: The song made the audience feel hopeful and it was moving. This was because P.K. - thought the signing - brought the tribes together. 

X: The purpose of this help show that P.K. was the mythical figure of the Rain-Maker. 

X: The singing with the long shots also shows the harmony of the natives as they are all sitting nicely together.

Y: The singing can be compound to the singing at the boxing match as the now freed natives sing to P.K. to show him they think he is the Rain-Maker. Both lots of singing give a sense of hope for the native South Africans.

When do you normally hear this song being played? 

This song has many reaons to be played. Firstly it its a call to tell the soldiers it's the end of the day. It's also played during military funerals to show that the soldier had been put to rest and it is also played at commemorative services like ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.

Why is this song significant to New Zealand?
Because it is a symbol to show how hard they fought in the war.

 Spiritual - Music Through Time 

Music was a way for slaves to express their feelings whether it was sorrow, joy, inspiration, or hope. Songs were passed down from generation to generation throughout slavery.

Harriet Tubman was a slave that escaped. She used this passage called the "underground railroad"

Wade in the water was a song that let the slaves know how to escape without being caught, but going into the water. 

Kayne West is a rapper, and a lot of the time there is a passage in the song. The passage was a message, the message was about slavery. In his song "New Slaves" he put in this message: 

They tryna make new slaves
See that's that privately-owned prison
Get your piece today
They prolly all in the Hamptons

Learning What have you been learning about?  Why did you learn this?	This term in art we have been studying the artist Slinkachu. Slinkachu is an artist who creates a design in public and leaves it there for people to see, each new scene has a different meaning to it. Slinkachu is very creative when it comes to his ideas and creating an awesome outcome of a photograph.  We also focused on an idea called ‘leading lines’ ; this task was using Slinkachu as an inspiration and re-created his art, and putting in some techniques that become really handy when doing any source of art. We also focused on the grid of the drawing, where the focal point was and where the leading lines took place.

Music Evaluation

 1. This year I enjoyed learning how to play the Piano. 

2. Something I found challenging this year was trying to understand the guitar. 

3.  Our group did a piano duet along with a ukulele, to the song All of me. We choose this song because we felt like it had a nice rhythm to it and we really wanted to try something outside our comfort zone. 

4. I was really nervous to perform at the start, but once I did it I felt better. 

5. Personally I was a little disappointed about myself in the performance because I did mess up at the end, wasn't really noticeable. 

6. I really enjoyed music this year! 

Home Economics

 Open Steak Sandwiches 

In food class, our task for the lesson was to make an open steak sandwich. This lesson required a lot of prepping with food. First, we chopped up all the fillings and put them into bowls, and cooked the steak, once we were ready we put what fillings we wanted into our sandwich, we ate it. I'm vegetarian so I didn't have steak in mine, but it still tasted good. If I was to ever re-cook this again something I would change is the bun it would make it bigger so it's more filling. 

Rice Paper Spring Rolls 

Last week's lesson was rice paper spring rolls, I personally didn't like these they were just not my type of food. The rice paper tasted like plastic. Inside there were a bunch of vegetables. If we wanted to we could dip it into some sweet chilli sauce to give it some flavour. These were not a favorite and I wouldn't cook them again.
